History of Highland Microfinance Bank

Highland Microfinance Bank Plc Bukuru transmitted from the former Bukuru Community Bank Nig. Ltd. It was established in1993 by Berom Youth Movement (BYM) to provide financial services to the low income earners of the grass roots and the poor who could not access banking services. of the community bank in the locality the bank started operations fully in1994.

In December 2007 in line with the central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) directives that all community banks convert to microfinance banks, Bukuru Community Bank Nig. Ltd (B.C.B Nig. Ltd) recapitalized its share capital and converted to Highland Microfinance Bank Plc. The change became necessary because the bank had a vision of becoming not only a state Bank but a regional Bank. In order to reflect that vision of a regional bank and not a local bank, the name Highland Microfinance Bank became most appropriate due to the geographical locations of the area. The bank now has over 1,500 shareholders cutting across all the states in the Federation.

As at December 31st December 2019, the Board comprised of 6 (Six) Directors, made up of 5 (Five) Non-executive Directors and one Executive Director in line with CBN requirements of Corporate Governance.      CLICK HERE
